Seattle picked up two crucial points in the race for a playoff spot in the Western Conference on Monday. Without Philipp Grubauer, who sat on the bench as a backup, the Kraken won 6–4 against Buffalo. Jared McCann scored one goal and had two assists. JJ Peterka remained scoreless for the Sabres.
The German NHL professionals also had losses for two other teams. In Boston, Nico Sturm’s San Jose Sharks took a 3-2 lead into the final third, but then conceded four goals in the final 20 minutes and lost 3-6. Sturm had prepared his team for an interim 1-1 draw. It was the eleventh scoring point for a national player this season.
After overtime against Chicago, Lucas Rachel and Chicago got at least one point in 3:4. Despite a 44-save save by goalkeeper Peter Mrazek, the Blackhawks eventually had to concede defeat as Jordan Staal scored in the 54th minute to give the Hurricanes the victory after 59 seconds of overtime. Rachel got 13 minutes of ice time.
