In 2024, to take on continual absenteeism, the Carson City Mayor, Lori Bagwell, along different neighborhood companions, introduced an attendance incentive marketing campaign, ‘Mayor’s Attendance Hall of Fame.”.
As of the first semester of the 2024-2025 school year, eight of the nine schools in the Carson City School District (CCSD) have seen a “desired decline” in chronic absenteeism; of those schools, two have shown a lower chronic absenteeism as compared to pre-COVID percentages.
CCSD says that chronic absenteeism is defined as missing at least 10 percent of a student’s days in a school year for any reason, whether it be excused or unexcused absences.
Mayor Bagwell began the campaign last year and chose to continue it in 2025, promoting perfect, improved, or consistent attendance. A campaign designed to help students understand the importance of attending school and incentivize children to arrive on time and remain at school.
As part of the campaign, Mayor Bagwell, alongside partnering businesses such as Greater Nevada Credit Union, Carson City Toyota, Casino Fandango, Glen Eagles Restaurant, and many others, have awarded six bicycles per elementary school and one bike for each middle school and high school, equaling 40 bikes in total, in addition to gift cards, movie tickets, and other prizes. Due to so many students meeting the criteria for a prize, the bikes and some of the other prizes were awarded in raffles.
The school district recognizes that some absences can’t be avoided and are beyond control; it’s when absenteeism or tardiness becomes an issue at school and a constant behavior.
They say parents must be behind these efforts to ensure their children are practicing good habits at home and school.
The marketing campaign gave certificate for the prizes from the attendance marketing campaign, which have been awarded publicly all over faculty assemblies and in school rooms.
The Carson City School District says the motorcycles shall be awarded in a birthday party match for successful scholars and their households on Wednesday, January 29, at 5:30 p.m. on the Fandango Ballroom. There shall be foods and drinks and protection equipment only if the scholars can use to very best equip their motorcycles.
