When I got my True Hzrdus PX4 custom set of hockey goalie gloves and pads, it was unfortunately right during playoffs of my hockey leagues. So I didn’t get a real chance to test them out and put them through their paces. When I got the pads, I did a comparison review between the more traditional True Catalyst PX3 and the more butterfly and stiffer Hzrdus PX4. Which you can watch here on YouTube!
I have since gotten a chance to wear the Hzrdus PX4 pads in the summer months during shinny sessions and for my 2024-25 beer league season. Overall I have about 6 months of use on the Hzrdus PX4 and am now very confident on my experience in how these PX4 play.
Starting with rebounds, True has what I believe are the 2nd hottest rebounds in the goalie pad market still trailing Bauer who has had the lead for about a decade now. I must admit I don’t have recent usage of the CCM Axis line and the Brian’s Optik line to do a side by side comparison. From my memory of in game usage, I feel the True Hzrdus PX4 kick out rebounds further and harder than the other brands. You can see and hear the proof in the below video!
The sizing has stayed consistent with True since the 12.2 pads, and to get your correct sizing make sure you check out the sizing guide on True’s customizer! In the full review below and on YouTube, I discuss how their Fast Rotation System (FRS) can be adjusted to adjust the how the pads fit on your leg and skates.
Overall, True has one of it not the best pad I have ever worn in the Hzrdus PX4. If I had to pick a single pad to live with for the rest of my life, it would be these True Hzrdus PX4. Their ice seal and stability is unmatched, post integration is solid, strapping is market leading, and I have never experience the same attention to detail from a factory before. I don’t necessarily believe the True Hzrdus PX4 pads are for everyone, as I have often fit people in a softer and older style of pad (think older Eflex and Vaughn) into the Catalyst line as the Hzrdus felt too blocky and stiff for their liking. But for me, who likes the stiffer and straighter pads, True Hzrdus PX4 is a very hard to beat complete package.
If this video and article helped you with your pad or gear purchase, it would be greatly helpful to the website and YouTube channel to let True Hockey and True Goalie on social media know Hockey Reviews content was helpful and you would like to see more of this in the future!
If you are buying hockey equipment anyways, it would be greatly appreciated if you helped support this channel by buying hockey equipment through these links (I get a kick back in sales) if you are in the US at Pure Hockey or if you are in Canada or the US through Just Hockey.
While I also hate to promote my other things, it has become evident to me it is important to get a viewer base that will help me continue doing reviews like this (I can’t afford to always buy new equipment!).
